How to Speak Up Against Bias and Discrimination

Bias and discrimination are unfortunately still common experiences for many Australian women. It can be difficult to know how to speak up against these issues, especially if you're not sure how your words will be received. However, it's important to remember that your voice matters and that you can make a difference by speaking out.

Here are a few tips on how to speak up against bias and discrimination:

  1. Be prepared. Before you speak up, take some time to think about what you want to say. What are your specific concerns? What evidence do you have to support your claims? The more prepared you are, the more confident you'll feel when you speak up.
  2. Be direct. Don't beat around the bush. If you see something that's biased or discriminatory, call it out directly. Be clear about what you're seeing and why it's wrong.
  3. Be respectful. Even if you're feeling angry or upset, it's important to speak to the person in a respectful way. Remember that they may not be aware of their own biases or discrimination. By speaking to them respectfully, you're more likely to have a productive conversation.
